Embracing technology to transform transportation

Present in 190 countries worldwide, the Group seeks to enhance quality of life and contribute to a healthier future. Within the Europe, Middle East and North Africa (EMENA) region, the organisation operates 110 factories and 226 distribution centres, receiving raw materials and goods from 47,700 suppliers and delivering products to 190,000 customer locations. Nestlé and Transporeon have been collaborating since 2007, most recently in support of the EMENA transportation transformation initiative.
Transporeon has proved to be a true strategic partner, working closely with our logistics team to achieve a comprehensive transformation of our regional transportation processes.
Sergio Scarcerieau, Transportation Transformation Manager
Nestlé Zone EMENA
The company was facing a number of different challenges. In particular, fuel price volatility impacted the freight price and there was insufficient available capacity on important lanes. Added to this, Nestlé EMENA was experiencing fierce competition across its markets and there were increasing demands from stakeholders to reduce the CO2 impact of transportation activities. Basic tools such as fax, email, phone and Excel were preventing Nestlé EMENA from improving capacity planning, procedure standardisation, transportation visibility and performance analysis.
To tackle these challenges, the organisation adopted cloud-based Transporeon solutions, tightly integrated with its SAP enterprise system and Jaggaer spend-management software. By implementing new standards and simple processes, assisted by state-of-the-art digital tools, Nestlé EMENA aims to fill every pallet and every truck, eliminate empty runs and leverage scale wherever it makes sense.
This solution will deliver freight cost savings, cut empty runs, reduce truck waiting and turnaround times and cut process costs. Other improvements include fewer penalty and demurrage charges, better resource utilisation due to greater transparency, and higher customer service through lean processes.
